On 06 October 2021, Mr Henrik HOLOLEI, Director-General for Mobility and Transport, has officially appointed the Platform Unmanned Cargo Aircraft (PUCA) as a full member of the Informal Drone Experts Group (IDEG), having considered the relevance of PUCA’s objectives and its demonstrated level of expertise. This appointment is not limited in time.

DHL Express & Pen Aviation seal a strategic partnership to participate in cargo drone delivery

They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to commercialize time-critical goods deliveries with unmanned aerial vehicles, leveraging PEN UAS-based solutions. This initiative is in partnership with Raya Airways as the cargo drone operator.

DHL will participate in a Proof of Commercialization (POC) by the end of 2021 to demonstrate the commercial viability of time-critical cargo drone delivery for port logistics missions, focusing on the maritime industry.

shows a Swedish Study on Defibrillator Delivery by Drone which was carried out in a clinical trial by the Department of Medicine, Centre for Resuscitation Science, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Early defibrillation is critical for the chance of survival in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Drones, used to deliver automated external defibrillators (AEDs), may shorten time to defibrillation, but this has never been evaluated in real-life emergencies. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of AED delivery by drones in real-life cases of OHCA.

Meituan Unveils Self-Developed Drone Model, Plans for Drone Logistics Network

Meituan introduced a new, self-developed drone model and announced plans for a drone logistics network pilot program in Shanghai. The announcement was made at the 2021 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, where Meituan demonstrated how drones and delivery riders could conceivably work together to deliver orders.

Middle-mile drone delivery – DRONAMICS and DHL enter partnership

DHL will partner DRONAMICS to jointly develop solutions and offer same-day cargo drone deliveries to customers using DRONAMICS’ drone delivery network and Black Swan drones. Both companies are discussing mutual exclusivity for middle-mile drone deliveries in selected industries and markets. In addition, DRONAMICS’ goal to become carbon-negative by 2027 and direction to operate on sustainable biofuels in the future will play a part in helping DHL achieve its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

The Federal Aviation Administration, after soliciting proposals for drone testing, has approved 10 of them. These tests should start to help the agency lay the framework for how and where the technology will be used.
